eMail notices
We have fixed the glitch in our email notices. People who have notices set up should now get hold notices in addition to overdue notices. SALS has also set our notices to send you an email reminder three days before an item is due. If you would like email notices set up, please ask at the desk.
Plant Sale
Plants are on sale at the library. Prices range from $2.00 – $15.00. There are some vegetable plants (tomatoes, cabbage, etc.), a few herbs (chocolate mint, & parsley) and lovely flowers.  There’s still time to add some great looking plants to your garden or pretty up your porch with a hanging basket!

Library Launches Online Book Club
Finding a Great Book to Read Just Got Easier So many books, so little time. For all those busy people, the Pember Library has a new service sponsored by the Friends of the Pember Library: an Online Book Club that delivers books electronically. Each day, Monday through Friday, the library e-mails subscribers a portion of a book that takes about 5-minutes to read. They’re able to read two or three chapters from a book during the week. If they like …

Best Selling Books of the Twentieth Century
Since we are celebrating 100 years as a library, I thought it would be interesting to see what the popular books were 100 years ago. The following is a list I found of the top books for each year of the first decade of the twentieth century. (Please note that Winston Churchill is an American author, not the British statesman.) * 1900 To Have and To Hold, Mary Johnston * 1901 The Crisis, Winston Churchill * 1902 The Virginian, Owen …

Magazine Sponsorship
We had a wonderful response to the request for magazine sponsorships. People read it here, there was a sign in the library and a short blurb in the Granville Sentinel. We now have sponsors for Martha Stewart Living, Bon Apetit, Horticulture, American Heritage, Northern Woodlands, Car and Driver, National Geographic Kids, Family Fun, The Conservationist & Country Woman. Thanks so much to all of you.
Parade
Here’s a photo of Ryan and me waiting for the parade to begin. Thanks to Tiffany and Ryan for taking part in the parade (and pushing the carts). Thanks to Heather and Alyssa for their help with putting the cake together. Also thanks to Cy for his help in putting the banners on the second cart. It was great fun. We have some other 100th birthday celebration things planned and we’ll share the details in the Sentinel and here on …
Genii McRoberts
I remember Genii’s daughter coming in to the library asking if we needed a volunteer. Boy, did we! Genii came in and helped us with cataloging and transferring all of our books from our old automated system to a new one. She worked hard, always with a sense of humor. Her dedication to books and libraries shows in the children’s room where she devised and implemented our color coding dots system. She had wonderful stories that she shared with her …
