Read it and Eat Book Club

This year’s book club will feature stories from the Adirondacks and other nearby places. Our first get together will be April 12 at 5PM. The book we will read is “A Northern Light” by Jennifer Donnelly. Order your copy through the library catalog, or call/come in to the library.

The group can decide during that meeting how often we will meet and what books we will be reading the rest of the year.

Change in Pember Board Meeting

The Pember Board of Trustees usually meets the third Thursday of each month at 6 PM.  We will not have a meeting on March 21 or April 18. Instead, our meeting will be held Thursday, April 4 at 6 PM at the Pember.

PEEPS Contest

2019 Pember Peeps Diorama Contest RULES

The PEEPS contest will take place First Friday, May 3 from 7-9 PM. All participants and the public are invited to attend, where they will be able to see the entries on display and vote for the PEEPLES CHOICE AWARD!

Your diorama display may have any theme as long as it is “family-friendly” (suitable for all audiences).

Diorama parts should all fit inside a box (maximum size 15x24x15). You may remove one or more sides of the box if you wish.

All visible parts of your diorama should be decorated.

All characters in your scene should be made using Peeps .®

Limit one entry per person or team.

Registration forms (available at the Pember) should be received by April 26. Dioramas should be dropped off at the Pember between 9AM and 4PM on May 3. They will remain on display the following week and must be picked up by May 15.


Pilcrow Foundation

Here are the 100 children’s books that were donated to us by the Pilcrow Foundation with the help of the Friends of the Pember Library. Look for them in various places in the library. Most are in the children’s room on top of the bookcase. Nonfiction for older children is in the window in the main room. And fiction for older children is on top of the book case near the copier. Please come in and “check them out.”

First Friday, March 1, 7-9PM

The Pember Library and Museum will feature the work of artist and photographer Tom Atkins for its March First Friday event. A native of Virginia, Tom is based in West Pawlet, VT and works out of his new studio at the Mettowee River Meeting House in Middle Granville, N.Y.

“I am primarily a poet and unabashedly abstract artist,” says Atkins.  “The challenge is to take line and color, creating art that is abstract, yet tells stories and evokes emotion. Tom’s work has appeared in galleries, magazines and public spaces. Besides his art, Tom spent 35 years as broadcast engineer designing and managing network projects. He is bi-vocational pastor of Rupert United Methodist Church.

For your musical enjoyment, the Pember is pleased to bring back guitarist Tom Behan and mandolinist / fiddler Jeff Anderson as the Bluegrass duet, The Taylor Hill Ramblers. Anderson and Behan are known for their harmonies, fun song selection, and creative arrangements. The two form half of the larger High Peaks Bluegrass Band.

First Friday is March 1, from 7-9 pm and is a free event. The art will remain on display for several weeks in March.

A meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Pember Library and Museum will be held on the third Thursday of each month at the Pember. This is a regular meeting and open to the public. See Upcoming Events Calendar for dates of meetings.
