Pop and Classical Music at May First Friday
Art, science and music will be the theme of May First Friday at the Pember Library and Museum in Granville, NY. Artist Patty Happy returns with newly completed works of nature studies rendered on bark. Patty has shown at LARAC, the Adirondack Museum and Raptor Festival, and her work is currently on display at Lapham Gallery Shop, Glens Falls, NY.
Gary Gendron and the Granville Vex Robotics Teams will be back to demonstrate their latest robot and technologies. The teams have reached State Championships every year since they began and reached the World Championship in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017.
A newcomer to First Friday, musician Nicholas Wills will be performing a dual bill of pop covers on guitar and classical music on keyboard. Come join us for an eclectic and fun evening.

The Pember Library and Museum in Granville, NY is pleased to present local artist Candy Cahn for April First Friday at the Pember. Candy loves wildlife and her art echoes her passion. “I come from a long line of artists,” she reflected. “My mother painted landscapes in oil, but I like to work with other subjects and media. Animals are my favorite – especially horses.”
The show will include Candy’s charcoal portraits of horses, vibrant watercolors of wild animals, and stitched nature panels. Candy has exhibited at the Poultney Library and was recently awarded two prizes for her animal portraits at the Washington County Fair.
It’s not often that we have a husband and wife team appearing at First Friday, but we do for April, so you just can’t miss this one. Guitarist, singer and songwriter Don Cahn will be performing. Be there…

Pushing the Limits book discussion ~ April 9. 1:00 PM
The Pember Library in Granville will host part four of the four-part reading, viewing and discussion series for adults called Pushing the Limits. Pushing the Limits brings together books and video featuring authors, scientists and everyday people who thrive on exploring the natural world.

Dylan O’Leary will lead a discussion of When the Killing’s Done, by T. C. Boyle on Sunday, April 9 at 1:00 PM, including a video of the author interview and human interest stories. Through this program you and your community will consider how we humans constantly push the limits of nature – that might mean the world around us or it may mean our own human nature. You’ll consider together “what is natural?” and “is there such a thing as pushing nature too far?”
This national program has been developed by a team of library professionals, scientists, and filmmakers. Their organizations include Dartmouth College, the Association for Rural and Small Libraries, the Califa Group (a California-based library consortium), Dawson Media Group, and Oregon State University– with generous funding from the National Science Foundation.

We’re going to play it safe and close for March 14. Hopefully everything will be cleaned up for us to open on time on Wednesday.
Stay safe, warm & dry. Fines will be waived if your books become overdue because of the closing.
Creative Aging at the Pember
Join us at the Pember Library in Granville for a series of workshops that will teach a variety of creative and fun projects for seniors. Each Friday from April 7- May 5 at 10 AM, we will sponsor a class in a different art form. Your creations will be yours to take home. You may sign up for one or all of the classes.
Classes are open to men or women with preference being given to senior citizens. These classes for adults are made possible by a grant from the Washington County Home for Aged Women.
On April 7, Jo-Ann Nadeau will show you techniques for creating imaginative Easter Cards. Besides being inexpensive, handmade, unique cards make a wonderful personal gift.
Kris Gibson will show us a new twist on dying eggs by repurposing silk ties on April 14.
On April 21, Ardyce Bresett will show you techniques for folding book pages into a sculpture.
Zentangle has become a worldwide passion that now has uses in stress reduction, education, and therapy. Bernadette Hoffman will lead you in creating structured designs through drawing various patterns on April 28. 
On May 5, learn why researchers and art therapists alike have touted the calming benefits of adult coloring books.
Registration is suggested so we have plenty of materials on hand. Please call the library at 518 642-2525 to register. All classes will take place in the main room of the library. There is an exterior ramp for accessibility to the first floor on the parking lot side of the building.
Pushing the Limits ~ Book Discussion March 19, 1PM
The Pember Library presents PUSHING THE LIMITS, a reading, viewing, and discussion program for adults in communities served by rural libraries made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
Unleash your mind…explore and get involved in ideas about knowledge, connections, nature and survival in a 4-part series for adults at the Pember Library in Granville.
Dylan O’Leary, a local science expert will join us to view two short videos and discuss the topics and recommended books. We will have several copies of the books available for checkout at the library before each program, but you do not need to read the book to attend the program. Each program promises to be engaging and thought-provoking, and we hope you will join us!
The third in the series will be held on Sunday, March 19 at 1:00 PM. This public program leads our community on an exploration of the theme of survival. As humans, we’re driven to find a way to survive, whether trapped in a life threatening situation or competing in a sport. Our instincts urge us to push our limits to make it through,
one way or another.
In subsequent discussions, we will explore how humans push the limits of nature with TC Boyle’s book “When the Killing’s Done.”
Light snacks with coffee or water will be provided.
