Pember Presents: Computers for Seniors
Barb Young will again be teaching the popular “computers for seniors” at the Pember Library. Classes will run from 10:30 AM to 12:00 noon Wednesdays and Fridays from March 23 through April 8.
Classes will cover internet and email, word processing, and using the library card catalog with databases.
You must pre-register for the series of classes. Class size is limited to eight people. Please call the library to register or for more information 518-642-2525.
Valentine card class
Join us at the Pember Thursday, February 11, at 6PM when Jo-Ann shows us how to make these cards. The first one is a cute little heart pop-up. The second one slides to reveal a secret message. A third card will also be available. Bring your supplies if you have them but there should be plenty if you don’t.
Red Cross Disaster Preparedness 1-19-2016 6PM
At the Pember Library:
As residents of New York State, we are all at risk of different kinds of disasters. It has become clear over the past few years, especially after the last hurricanes, that New York is not as prepared for a disaster as it should be. Governor Cuomo’s Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program provides New Yorkers with the knowledge and tools to prepare for emergencies and disasters, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to post-disaster conditions. The Red Cross, being a leader in disaster preparedness, has joined Governor Cuomo in this initiative, offering this training program throughout the community. The program is informative and completely free!
The program consists of a presentation with Q & A that lasts around an hour and a half, and gives a comprehensive overview on how to prepare for, respond and recover from natural and man-made disasters.

Intermediate Genealogy ~ Family Stories
This course assumes that researchers have begun their research already (otherwise, they need Genealogy 101). In this course, Kathleen shows how to find the juicy details that motivated us to begin all this research: lengthy obituaries, prison records, ship logs, etc. This is why we research: to discover the family stories that have been lost to time.

The first course, Genealogy 101, explains how to begin a genealogy search — without spending money. It highlights the excellent free sites available, and the subscription sites available at many libraries. Kathleen will also go over the basics for starting searches in different countries.
