Audiobook changes

We have added a new audiobook category: “New & Popular Audiobooks.” They can be checked out for two weeks with one renewal. There is a ‘new’ sticker on the spine and they are shelved separately. All other audiobooks can be checked out for four weeks and have one renewal.

btw: this info is for physical audiobooks that are in our library. Our Overdrive collection of downloadable audiobooks default to a one-week checkout but you can manually change that to 14 days for a specific book before you check out or set your own personal default. After logging into the website go to “My Account” and then click on “Lending Periods” to set a personalized default of 14 days.

The book club will be reading “Thunder at Twilight: Vienna 1913 / 1914” by Frederic Morton. It describes the events leading up to WWI.
Please join us for a discussion of this interesting period in history.

I don’t order a lot of non-fiction because people here at the Pember tend to like fiction better. However, there are some great nonfiction titles coming out in September.

This special workshop presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Washington County will enable you to  learn about

  • Low-cost, no cost energy conservation methods
  • Each participating household will receive an Energy-Saving Kit worth $15

Pember Presents: The Storycrafters

Join us at the Pember Library at 6 PM on Wednesday, August 26, when Barry Marshall, and Jeri Burns, PhD, will present stories and songs from the history of NY State. “The Storycrafters” will bring us tales ranging from Native American origins through Dutch and English colonization, Henry Hudson’s exploration, and the NY State tall tale tradition. Other stories may include: Abenaki stories, ghost stories, tall tales, NY State folktales, more!

Jeri and Barry believe in the time-tested wisdom of traditional stories, and share that wisdom with today’s audiences. They strive to honor world cultures by telling the old stories in respectful ways, often integrating the musical instruments, songs or dances indigenous to that region.
