UPDATE: The New York State Library regretfully announces that its subscription to the JobNow™ database, including the Adult Learning Center made available as part of the online resources available through the NOVELny platform, ended on April 30, 2013.

 

obNow, also available through the NOVELNY Portal and funded by federal ARRA funds through the State Library’s Broadbandexpress@yourlibrary BTOP Project, is an online service for job seekers that features the following services: live interview coaching; resume/cover letter assistance, and access to both statewide and nationwide job resources. 

This can be accessed at home or on the library computers. Use this Link. You will be asked for your library card number.

NEW YORK STATE LIBRARY ANNOUNCES ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS FOR NOVELNY

Bernard A. Margolis, Assistant Commissioner for Libraries and State Librarian, is pleased to announce the selection of electronic products to constitute the NOVELNY (New York Online Virtual Electronic Library) statewide collection through June 30, 2013. 

 In 2012/2013, NOVELNY offers an encyclopedia, strong general reference and periodicals content, business, news and health concentrations, an interface and content for children, and author information.  Products were competitively selected to provide the broadest array of desired content for the best value given current resources.

  You can access all these through this weblink.  You may need a library card to use some of these databases.

 Provided by the New York State Library, NOVELNY is a Statewide Internet Library connecting New Yorkers to 21st Century information. NOVELNY is supported with temporary federal Library Services and Technology Act funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Book Club

The  book club decided to read more of Mark Kurlansky's books. They are well-done and interesting. 
They also plan to read 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus by Charles C. Mann for their November meeting. More info will posted.

The book club will discuss books written by Mark Kurlansky. He has had 23 books published including fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books. Cod, Salt, 1968, and Food of a Younger Land were all New York Times Best Sellers. His most  recent title is Birdseye:  The Adventures of a Curious Man.

A biography of Clarence Birdseye, the inventor of frozen food and one of the last of the eccentric inventors who solved problems with odd scraps in his basement.

Fall Sale at the Pember

We have lots of VHS movies and audio books on cassette that didn’t make it to the summer sale. We will have a special sale of these items on September 29, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

There may also be some paperbacks for sale.

All proceeds will benefit the Pember book acquisition fund.

Pember Board Meeting

A meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Pember Library and Museum will be held on the third Wednesday of each month at the Pember. This is a regular meeting and open to the public.
