BLR_KeysToKitchenBig Library Read, OverDrive’s “global book club,” is back once again for libraries to lend millions of users around the world the same eBook simultaneously for free! The program that in 2013 brought us Michael Malone’s Four Corners of the Sky and Jane O’Connor’s Nancy Clancy, Super Sleuth is now bringing the secrets of the kitchen to your eReaders, tablets and computers.

Food Network and Cooking Channel star Aida Mollenkamp has provided her culinary guide Keys to the Kitchen to all participating libraries for their users to enjoy from February 17 through March 5, free for the program duration with simultaneous worldwide usage rights, without wait lists or holds.

Keys to the Kitchen is a cookbook by definition, but it’s much more than simply directions to get from page to plate. Author Aida Mollenkamp provides helpful how-to information on everything from proper knife skills and finding the right ingredients to throwing a show- stopping cocktail party. It doesn’t just provide ideas on what to cook, but also walks the reader through how to cook.

Pember Board Meeting

A meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Pember Library and Museum will be held on the third Thursday of each month at the Pember. This is a regular meeting and open to the public.

First Friday at The Pember in Granville will feature Granville High School’s VEX Robotics team. Students will unleash their robots and have them travel an official obstacle course laid out on the floor of the Pember.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Dashef ’s sixth-grade class will be showing off the art they have created on cabinet doors – abstract montage faces “meant to inspire acceptance, tolerance, individuality and creativity.”
Steven Havel will provide music.

Nearby at the Slate Valley Museum, Interim Director Sarah Kijowski said the community is invited to stop by for a free evening of re-getting to know the museum.

“For our February First Friday, one of our educators will be on hand to offer insights into life in the Slate Valley, past and present,” she said. “Escape the cold weather and spend your evening exploring the history, industry and geology of the Slate Valley. Wander through the exhibits or join in on a guided tour.” Refreshments will be provided as well.
