Award-Winning Bird Photography opening at Pember First Friday
The National Audubon Awards Road Show of best avian photography of 2018 is coming to The Pember Library and Museum in Granville, NY. The winning photographs for the exhibit were selected from more than 8,000 entries submitted by photographers from all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces.
The exquisite photographs celebrate the splendor of many bird species protected under the 100-year-old Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the nation’s most important bird conservation law.
Come walk among the stunning photographs and learn more about local bird life. Reproductions of the images will be for sale.
To make it a killer show, the well known and popular jazz band, “Moose Crossing” will be performing. Zak Hampton and friends have played with us many times and they always delight.
A beer & wine cash bar will be available by On the Rocks Pub.
The exhibit opens September 6, at 6 pm and will remain up until September 20. First Friday hours are 6 to 9 pm and is a free event.

John Hughes, Recruiting Assistant for the 2020 census, will present more in-depth information about what census jobs will be available.

Even though the Census is incredibly important, not many people really have a good idea about what it is or what census jobs entail. John Hughes, Recruiting Assistant for the 2020 census, will be at the Pember to share information and clear some misconceptions about what exactly the census is and what a census worker does. He will talk to people about the census and the jobs they are currently hiring for.

We will be showing a movie each Friday morning at 10 AM. The movie will be kid/family friendly. Bring your own popcorn!

The first movie will be “Muppets from Space.”

“Dreadful Art” Returns to Pember in August

Some “really bad art” is in store for First Friday at the Pember Library and Museum in Granville, NY. The sixth annual exhibition, “Dreadful Art VI – Because the World Is Here and Not Somewhere Else” opens at First Friday on August 2, and will remain up for part of the month. This year’s show will feature new finds and fantastical naive art.

“The show is great fun and takes us alongside the artist’s struggle for excellence,” mused Mary King, Pember board president. “Without bad, we would never get to good.”

Once again, ballots for “Best of the Worst” will be available for your voting pleasure at the Pember, with a prize given to the winning entry. Open call for submissions runs until Thursday, August 1. Submissions may be dropped off at the Pember. For more information, call 518-642-1515.

A special play list of recorded music to complement the décor will be part of the show.

First Friday runs from 7 to 9 pm, the first Friday of every month.
