June First Friday at the Pember Library and Museum in Granville, NY welcomes the students of Granville Central School District for an exclusive exhibition of their creative work.

Jennifer Dashef’s class will be showing ” Elementary Art”, 25 pieces of tessellations, prints, pastel drawings, and watercolor paintings; and June Brown’s sixth-graders will fill the Library with 75 puppets of their creation, based on a character of their choice from books they have read. The technique of their puppet-making derives from a prior workshop by Ms. Brown and Vermont’s No Strings Marionette Company.

“The children’s art and puppets have always surprised and delighted our audiences,” said Pember board president, Mary King. “Everyone is looking forward to this year’s show.” The exhibit will remain on display for part of the month of June.

A play list of specially selected recorded music will accompany the exhibit. First Friday is June 1, from 7 to 9 pm and is a free event.

First Friday May 4, 7-9 pm

The Pember Library and Museum will feature the work of photographer Andrew Williams for its May First Friday event. Andrew grew up in Granville and began taking pictures in high school. He’s passionate about photography and his work shows a good eye and command.

“I enjoy photographing nature, such as waterfalls, trees and flowers,” explains Williams, “but I’m also drawn to capturing portraits of people, family and events. Photography comes down to seeing new perspectives, and while I’m part of the process of creating an image, the really interesting aspect is in letting the image create itself. That is what I love to see.“

For your musical entertainment, Jeff Anderson and Tom Behan of the High Peaks Bluegrass Band, a high energy combo, will be performing classics from the Bluegrass, Gospel & Old Time genres at First Friday.

First Friday is May 4, from 7-9 pm and is a free event.

Cambridge artist Donna Wynbrandt will be showing recent works at the Pember Library and Museum, opening at First Friday on April 6. The show will feature thirty of Wynbrandt‘s abstract drawings – vibrant color portraits and surprising renderings of events and things around her.

Donna’s unique style is continually evolving – she says she’s influenced by everything from pre-historic through pop art and printed images. She has exhibited at numerous shows in New York State and nationally. “Donna’s line is sophisticated, her perspective primitive and her color outrageous,” said one art aficionado.

For your musical pleasure, Coffee and Onions – Neal Herr and David Strange will be performing oldies and originals. First Friday is 7 to 9 pm and is always free.
