Knit-In
We’re going to have a “knit-in” group at the library. Beginning October 2, people can come in every Friday (2PM) and work on their knit or crochet projects and get help or encouragement or just have someone to chat with while they work. The group can work on individual projects, but should also do some projects for charity. Meet Henry Hudson
We are participating in the Hudson River Champlain Valley Heritage Weekend http://www.ny400.org/events/hudson-river-valley-heritage-weekend On Sunday, September 13, we will have a historical interpretation of Henry Hudson as portrayed by Don Thompson. The program will start at 1pm and the library will be open from 1-5 on Sunday.
Friends meeting
All are welcome at a meeting of the Friends of the Pember Library. The discussion will be a possible paperback book sale later in the fall and preparations for the annual holiday open house.
Book Club
The book club will be reading “Thunder at Twilight: Vienna 1913 / 1914” by Frederic Morton. It describes the events leading up to WWI. Please join us for a discussion of this interesting period in history.

Pember Presents: The Storycrafters Join us at the Pember Library at 6 PM on Wednesday, August 26, when Barry Marshall, and Jeri Burns, PhD, will present stories and songs from the history of NY State. “The Storycrafters” will bring us tales ranging from Native American origins through Dutch and English colonization, Henry Hudson’s exploration, and the NY State tall tale tradition. Well, I admit it; it’s all my fault. I got busy with library inventory (Yay!!!, it’s done) and took a few vacation days. Not really a good excuse for not putting information out about a program. Parenting Classes
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Washington County will present a series of classes on parenting at the Pember Library. Parents can expect to learn how to effectively communicate with their children effective non-violent discipline skills how to build their child’s self-esteem how to build the best relationship with their child Each class is two hours long. Pember Presents: composting
Aaron Gabriel, Extension Resource Educator for Crops and Soils from Cornell Cooperative Extension will present a program about composting. The discussion will focus on home composting, with information on other composting systems (animal manure, food wastes, carcasses) as well.  He will cover how the composting process works, what can and can not be composted, how to set up bin system or home composting system, how to evaluate compost quality, how to use compost.  There will be a power point presentation and probably some samples of compost.
