Join us at the Pember Library when Ann Rich Duncan will read from the latest book in her Johnny Vic historical fantasy series. Johnny Vic’s Nautical Adventure features historical and scientific information about Lake Champlain. Duncan will also lead craft projects including creating a rubber ship for use as a game piece to play Johnny Vic’s Crazy Cargo Game. Then attendees will have a chance to create a pictorial story board, focusing on Lake Champlain.
The 400th Anniversary of the discovery of Lake Champlain includes a series of celebrations in 2009, and it’s the perfect time for the publication of Johnny Vic’s Nautical Adventures. Geared for kids but lauded by adults and teachers, all of the Johnny Vic adventures are exciting stories that include real historical and scientific information. It’s a fun way to become more aware of the important role the Champlain Valley played in the development of our country. Through a multi-disciplinary project featuring the adventures of Johnny Vic, families will have an opportunity to enjoy math, writing, and arts and crafts skills.
The program is part of the New York State Summer Reading Program, Explore New York, for teens and adults. All are welcome.
