Book Club
The book club will read any title by Nevada Barr.

Book recommendation
I have read the first four of Louise Penny’s Quebec-set mysteries and thoroughly enjoyed them. The sixth book, Bury Your Dead got starred reviews in all the pre-pub journals and made a number of “Best of 2010” lists. Louise Penny’s website says “Like the rest of the Chief Inspector Gamache novels, BURY YOUR DEAD is a murder mystery. But it’s not actually about murder. It’s not about blood, but what’s in the marrow. What we harbor and hide deep down. Our terrors, but also our grace.”
When asked, “should the books be read in order?” Ms. Penny replies “… while it’s not necessary to read them in any particular order (they’re designed to be self-standing) there is quite a strong character development arc. I think you’d enjoy the books even more if read in order. ”

Dutch Influence on the American Kitchen and Life
Food historian Peter G. Rose explores the foodways brought to America by the Dutch more than three centuries ago, and the way these foodways were adapted to new circumstances. Slides of 17th century Dutch art works depicting various foodstuffs are part of this lecture.
Ms. Peter G. Rose is an author, columnist, lecturer, and food historian.
Ms. Rose has lectured on a variety of topics related to Dutch-American culinary history at, among others: The Smithsonian Institute, the National Gallery of Art, the Culinary Institute of America, New York University, and the New York Historical Society, as well as many other historical societies and libraries in New York State.
This Speakers in the Humanities event, which is free and open to the public, is made possible through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities, a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
The Speakers in the Humanities program has linked distinguished scholars with diverse audiences since its launch in 1983, bringing the best in humanities scholarship to thousands of people at hundreds of cultural organizations in virtually every corner of New York State. This program is just one of the ways the New York Council for the Humanities helps all New Yorkers to lead vibrant intellectual lives by strengthening traditions of cultural literacy, critical inquiry, and civic participation.
Computers for Seniors
Beginning computer classes for senior citizens will once again be offered thanks to a grant from The Washington County Home for Aged Women and additional funding from the Friends of the Library. Barbara Young will teach six 1 1/2 hour sessions beginning March 21. Sign up now to get a place in the class. The class size is limited to eight people.

Granville Heritage Society ~ Guns and Violins
The Granville Heritage Society will meet at the Pember Library, Sunday, April 10 at 2PM. The guest speaker will be Marie Butler. Marie will talk about her father-in-law, Floyd Butler, his gunshop and music lessons. There will be a powerpoint presentation as well as photos and artifacts on display.
