Friends of the Library meeting
The next meeting of the Friends will take place in the main room of the library. We will discuss the spring paperback book sale that will be held Saturday, April 25 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the main room of the library. We will also be making plans for our huge summer book sale which will be held at the Granville Central School Junior-Senior High School cafeteria. Fireside Story Time
Join us on Saturday mornings for Fireside Story Time.  Pat O, MaryLou O, and Robyn L will each host one of the story times in March. Anyone else who would like to volunteer some time to read to the children, please give a call to the library and we will work you in to our schedule. Change in  our downloadable audiobooks
Netlibrary, the current downloadable audiobook vendor for the Southern Adirondack Library System, will end at midnight of February 28, 2009. The link has been removed from the Pember Library’s website so if you click on “eAudiobooks” nothing will happen. Why is this being done? It was decided at the SALS directors’ meeting to try a different vendor for the downloadable product. The new vendor is Overdrive. Story Time
Story time this week will feature Pets. Children will have a chance to draw their favorite pet to be entered into our contest to win a long-arm monkey or bobcat. Adults can try to match Pember people with their pets to win a copy of the book “Dewey” by Vicki Myron.
Gaiman’s book wins Newbery Award
One of the new books that was donated through our Pember Angel campaign in December was Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. It was announced yesterday that the book won the Newbery Award for excellence in children’s literature. The story is a takeoff of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, with an orphaned boy being adopted by the inhabitants of a graveyard instead of a panther and a bear. I just finished reading Stranger Room, a locked room mystery with two murders occurring 150 years apart. This is Frederick Ramsay’s fourth Ike Schwartz mystery taking place in Picketsville VA. I read a review of this a few months ago and put in a request for it. It was worth the wait. The stranger room is a part of the main house with a separate entrance, kept for use by unknown travelers. Book Club
The book club decided to read any title by Robert Louis Stevenson. We have several on hand at the library or you may request one by inter library loan. Contact us at the library if you  need help with this. Story time has been changed to Thursday evenings at 5:30. This week we will feature stories about Grampa’s Farm. Jo-Ann will read a couple of books and she and the children will use the flannel board to tell their own stories.
