What are you reading?

I needed something to read when I went to the doctor’s office the other day so I grabbed the paperback  “Poisoned Pins,” a Claire Malloy mystery by Joan Hess. I have read other mysteries by Joan Hess and enjoyed them.

Claire has a teen-aged daughter and they both seem to have attitude.  There is some humor, and a bit of a mystery.  I’m about half way through this and I think I know whodunit. The teenage daughter is overly dramatic and I’m not fond of the way Claire treats her romantic interest.   But I will finish the story and try to find one that “hooks” me better from the start.

The Pember Book Club will be reading Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls. Join us for a discussion about a book listed as “true life novel.” The subject of the book is the author’s maternal grandmother.  Walls set out to tell the story of this grandmother as a biography but found that she needed to fill in too many places for it to be really nonfiction. horses
